Georgina Kennedy & Aly Abou Eleinen Set To Headline German Open 2025 – Presented by Sportwerk

The draws for the German Open 2025- Presented by Sportwerk were announced earlier this week with defending champion and World No.6 Georgina Kennedy topping the women’s draw whilst World No.13 Aly Abou Eleinen leads the men’s field for the PSA Squash Tour Bronze level events.

48 players in total will descend on the Sportwerk Club in Hamburg between 19-23 March. With glass court actin available to watch live on SQUASHTV. For those wanting to attend in person and watch the action close up, tickets are available to purchase here.

Kennedy, who defeated Nele Gilis-Coll in last year’s final, returns as the top seed for the 2025 event after climbing to World No.6. The Englishwoman has been suffering with an injury since December but will be determined to produce another strong performance in an event that holds special memories for her.

Egypt’s Nada Abbas is the No.2 seed for the event as she looks to claim only her second event win since 2021. The World No.14 claimed the Irish Open title at the end of last season and impressively reached the semi-finals of the season opening CIB Egyptian Open Diamond level event in August. Abbas is a fast, aggressive player and will be looking to utilise her strengths to score a first World events win of her career.

In the same half of the draw as Abbas sits USA No.2 and former World No.3 Amanda Sobhy. The American returned from a second Achilles rupture injury at the start of this season and is making strides to return to the top of the game. Sobhy is the No.3 seed and will need to come through a potential quarter final clash with Katie Malliff if she is to meet Abbas in the final four. Whilst in the top half of the draw, France’s Melissa Alves is the remaining top four seed and is another who will be hoping that injury woes are behind her as she looks to move further inside the world’s top 20.

World No.13 Aly Abou Eleinen tops the men’s draw as he heads to Germany for the second time in his PSA career. The 25-year-old has competed in Germany once before, claiming victory at the Bremer Schlüssel in 2022. He’ll be looking to maintain his 100% record in PSA events in Germany to score a first win of the season in Hamburg.

Eleinen’s closest competitor will be France’s Victor Crouin, who sits just one place behind the Egyptian in the PSA World Rankings at No.14. Crouin has struggled to find his best squash in recent times after breaking into the top 10 two seasons ago. The Frenchman’s grit and resilience is paramount to his success on court and he will never go down without a fight.

Two dangerous 3/4 seeds lurk in the draw however as Fares Dessouky and Miguel Rodriguez will be ready to pounce if the top seeds slip. Dessouky, an often controversial character, has all the ability of a top eight player but can struggle to maintain his focus for entire matches. Physical phenomenon Rodriguez, is impressively still ranked inside the world’s top 20 at 39 years old. The Colombian’s fitness and tactical knowledge make him a threat to any of the world’s best on his day and he’ll be desperate to claim another World Events title before he retires.

Home interest in the women’s draw comes from wildcards Katerina Tycova and Saskia Beinhard whilst former World No.13 Raphael Kandra and Valentin Rapp will look to utilise the crowd support in the men’s event. There’s no doubt that the Hamburg crowd will fully get behind their home players but the quality squash that will be on show throughout the whole event will certainly be recognised.

“I am super excited about the draws!” said promoter Bart Wijnhoven.

“In the men’s event, we have six top 20 players and more amazing players (currently outside the top 20) like Mueller, Brownell and Abouelghar, a super strong draw!”

“Equally for the women’s draw, with previous year’s winner Georgina Kennedy as well as Nada Abbas, Amanda Sobhy, Melissa Alves and Tesni Murphy we have a strong Bronze event. And of course, it’s great to have Joelle King back.. a dark horse and maybe one to watch.”
